This morning the wonderful Roderigo: Concierto de Aranjuez and Fantasia para un gentilhombre (Narcisoc Yepes) and Concierto Andaluz ( Los Romeros). I cannot ever get tired of listening to this music: Spanish and guitars, my favorite combo. I keep wanting to get more Roderigo and the Concierto played by John Williams, my favorite classical guitarist.

Lulu:

Do you have this delectable 4-disc set of the complete Rodrigo Concerti, led by Batiz? If not, grab it on Amazon, where it's selling for about $13.00. Highly recommended....

Wonderful news, Karl; if only the audience were larger (but just as attentive). It must be especially gratifying to have generated another performance of Shamrock so soon, as well as to have won more-than-merely-familial kudos. All well worth a flat tire. ;)

Origins of Human Music: [urlnw]http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/25/science/25flute.html?hpw[/urlnw]

The article includes an audio clip of a tune played on a replica of a 30,000+ year old flute. The tuning is surprisingly good; someone more skilled than I could probably identify the mode it plays in (dorian?).

You know, that flat tire actually simplified many things. (And the best news of all is, that the problem was not the tire — which is quite new — per se; but just a bad valve, and so an easy fix.)

1. I had to pull off to the shoulder not far from downtown Boston, so roadside assistance was fairly quick.

2. It happened at the perfect time; I quickly realized that Paul, who would be driving north to Boston from Providence, might still be in good position to pick up Shauna, the rec. eng., who was at her parents' place in Milton (south of Boston).

3. My call to Paul found him practically approaching the exit he needed to head to Shauna's house; it took him a little out of his way, so that he was slightly late to rehearsal.

4. AAA had me fixed up in ample time for me to get to the church for rehearsal.

At first, it had the feel of an unwelcome disaster, but in fact, it was a blessing. Kudoi to my good angel, still not asleep at the switch!

Cheers,

What fun to look at the performance history of the NY Phil: [urlnw]http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06/24/arts/music/24orchestra.html?ref=music[/urlnw]

Some works are distinctly underprogrammed, IMHO...

This morning the wonderful Dvorak Cello Concerto along with Tschaikovsky's Rococco Variations with Rostropovic and von Karajan conducting the Berlin Philharmoniker. Ah, two of my favorites but the Dvorak piece is sublime. :D :D

lulu: They’re certainly amongst my favourite cello works too BUT my absolute fave is the Elgar concerto – either Isserlis/Hickox or du Pré/Barbirolli; preferably both!
