But Visa already issues photo IDs, Lulu didn't you read my post?

There is no bank in your town with a camera set-up, operated by a friendly bank employee, snapping your picture? And it's all free of charge!

[b]lulu:[/b} Ask your credit card provider if they offer a PIN on credit cards (as opposed to debit cards).

From my experience - as someone who accepts credit/debit/EFTPOS cards for business - cards that require the customer to enter a PIN, offer the best security for both the customer and the merchant. Of course a PIN is not used for telephone/mail/internet transactions, however these transactions are processed slightly differently and there are other (slightly less secure) safeguards built in to such transactions.

The lowest level of security offered on cards is signature/photo.

On a slightly different matter: I once had my credit card cloned. It was picked up by my bank when 2 transactions were processed through card readers within half an hour of each other - one here in Sydney (by me) and another on Taipei 10,000 Km away! Apparently, the electonic details of my card were copied and a new card produced - over $6,000 was fraudulently charged to that card in Taiwan before the fraud was detected.

Just for today. It comes down at midnight.

(BTW, I hate that thing too, but it's the most effective way to alert the entire board. It wouldn't be so onerous if there were no ads (the News flash would be only as large as the text requires which, in this case, would be a mere sliver), but FreeForums wants upwards of $10/mo to remove those ads, and that's just too damned expensive.)

I should have added that the FreeForums charge of $10/mo was as of a few months ago, and is variable as it's based on board activity, and the way these people have set things up, one never knows from month to month how much the charge will be for the next month. Very unprofessional, but that's how the thing is set up by FreeForums.

I do use my pin number and ask for debit card. Obviously Macy's just used the charge. There is no picture for my bank-issued debit card.

I'm being hit by so many organizations for donations and subscriptions. lately I've been getting calls from United States Gov. on my caller id and have ignored them figuring they would leave a message. Unfortunately, my curiosity got the better of me and I picked it up and got Rob from the National Symphony Orchestra and I asked why on earth it said US Government and he said well, the Kennedy Center is part of the government! Personally, I think that's quite deceptive. If I had seen Nat'l Symphony Orchestra I would not have picked it up but curiosity got the better of me seeing that it said the government and even though I knew it wasn't the government. He was trying to sell me tickets and if there is anything least likely to get my money it's to an orchestra concert. I can hear music on the radio or cds (yes I know it's better in the concert hall) but I would rather pay my money for something visual: ballet and opera. I cannot do it all or give to every organization.

He said well we have the Pops (not interested); Marvin Hamlisch (definitely not), Sondheim no. Even Beethoven couldn't get me to buy a ticket. But it just steamed me to know that the NSO used deceptive practices knowing people would see Government and think it's important. (I did it out of curiosity knowing I shouldn't have. That will teach me to be curious!) But at least I know who's calling when the Government calls.

Exactly my thinking. I couldn't agree more.
And to add to it a wee bit more, if they did what you propose, they might also consider the "trapped" audience of prospective buyers they have in a plane and advertise specials of Kindles when you fly with them. They bombard us with all their sales pitches of stuff to sell on the flights, so why not Kindles?

I'm midway through Volume 2 of Richard Taruskin's Oxford History of Western Music (which I heartily recommend). Each volume is so big and heavy that, even though I'm a big, strong guy, I sort of wish I had it on a Kindle or similar gadget so I only had to hold up one page at a time, so to speak. (I do wonder, though, how a Kindle manages to display illustrations and, in this case, musical examples. Anyone know?)

Poorly as of now, but not for long. They almost have the problem beat, or so I'm informed.

You can e-mail Jeff Bezos directly. I called amazon about a complaint and they gave me his e-mail which I no longer have. Problem was resolved. I was surprised when the woman at amazon told me to email Bezos directly.

The data seem to back her up.

Interesting, that heritability of IQ increases with age: and the explanation is so plausible that I wonder why I was surprised. (Perhaps my IQ ain't what I thought it was.)

You're attempting to use the YouTube URL in the info box to the right of the video labeled "Embed". You have to use the plain old regular URL -- the one in the info box to the right of the YouTube video labeled simply, "URL" -- between the opening and closing YouTube BBCode tags. That's to say, the URL you'd enter into your browser's address bar to get to the video. The embedding function is written into the code I wrote to create the YouTube BBCode tags.
