ACD: Thank you for hosting the NYT Forum diaspora here. I'm wondering if the maintenance of this site is costly. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be happy to make a financial contribution to help out.

Thank you, Kashania, but the CM&OF is hosted free by our host, FreeForums.org. The only money cost I've incurred so far is to pay for the removal of all ads from the CM&OF (a few of them were actually dangerous). Those ads benefit FreeForums.org which is why they can host boards free of charge to board owners (or "Founders", as they're called). To get rid of those ads, board owners must pay FreeForums.org a monthly fee (at present, $4.95/month). Seems more than reasonable to me, and so I pay it.

OK, ACD. But please feel free to let us know if you come across unexpected costs. We're all benefitting from this place and without it, we would have lost our precious community.

Like kashie, I'd be willing to contribute.

Samm:

Hi. Glad to see you on board here.

I'd like to start an off-chatter discussion but, unlike the movie forum from the Times, no one will follow me I'm sure. It really was a funny one. I do miss that movie forum. Sometimes music is just not enough.

You'll never know unless you actually try.

Samm, great to see you here! Glad to read that you're playing tennis. Work and other commitments have my playing time down to once a week (or less); that's really not enough to keep my game (let alone my body) in shape.

Lulu, go ahead and try. Maybe we'll get our first food fight that way.

ACD, please add my name to the list of those willing to contribute funds, as the need arises.

Ahoy, Karl!

Lulu-maki, start your movie discussion please, don't just taunt us!

As a recent retiree, Peter, I find I do have time for tennis. So much so that I'm now laid off with a nasty tennis elbow. *ptui!*

Is there a threaded off-topic chatter forum?

I was thinking of having a "movie cliche" thread and see where it took us.

If not, I can start it here.

Sorry. No threaded Off-Topic Chatter forum. You can start your "'movie cliché'" subject here, of course, and, if you wish, give your post on the subject a subject title reflecting its subject matter. That way, posts by those replying to that post by clicking on the QUOTE button in the upper right-hand corner of your post will also show the same subject title. Ditto for those replying to replies to that original post, etc. In that way you can build a thread within this single main thread of this non-threaded forum. The original subject title of this forum's main thread will not be affected by your doing this as anyone posting to the main single thread of this non-threaded forum by simply clicking the POSTREPLY button, or clicking on the QUOTE button of any post whose subject title has not been changed will preserve the original subject title of this main thread.

Is that all clear for you?

Picasso painting heads for NYC auction

Of course, in our day, there's only one way to read that. But all the same, at first, I read it the wrong way, with heads as a noun, the object of the participle painting, rather than painting as a noun and heads the verb.

No, nothing to drink tonight. (Just tea.)

Karl, are you sure Picasso isn't just having a very active, erm, "retirement"?

Many computer users are unaware that regular cleaning of the inside of their computer’s monitor can improve the monitor’s performance and help reduce eye strain.

Run the monitor cleaning programme (linked below) at least once a month.
