Leah Partridge sang in Maria Padilla here with the Washington concert opera and was very, very fine. After that she had a minute part in the Met's Thais and now she is getting good reviews in Europe.

I don't know what it is they're selling, but whatever it is, I'm buying.

(That ad would make one helluva Regieoper Walküre Act III opening.)

I feel left out. I can't get that Wagner page to open on my computer.

Do I need to change my internet filter setting to "adult?"

What happens when you try to open the video?

I laughed so hard I forgot what I was going to tello maestrob (that I have that cd of Handel arias by Kozena (who is a wonder).

But that video has me still laughing. I'll bet cliftwood's eyes were dazed; so were mine.

Jamie, it will repay your effort to disable your web nanny, just this once. ;) The video also takes a very long time to load.

As far as I can tell, the company (Fleggaard) is a conglomerate spanning Denmark and southern Sweden; the tag line at the end means "just over the border". They sell housewares and vacation tours, among other things.

Now I need to figure out what the skydiving Valkyries are spelling out... if I could only pay attention. 8-)

Well that should ensure the end of breastplates in productions of The Ring.

As close as my feeble eyes could read, it seemed to say:
"siemensvaskemaskine kun 1998"

Okay, here is the translation: "washing machines from only 1998" (Danish kronen) *

Try this:

That's a "squeezed" version (i.e., squeezed horizontally like a Cinemascope movie shown without correction to fit a standard movie screen).

Blunts the full impact.

And the text at the end reads:
“Fleggaard – Lige over Grænsen” which means “Fleggaard – Just over the edge”. Grænse also has the meaning “border”, and Fleggaard is a German company selling lots of stuff cheap (or so they say) in Denmark. Hence “just over the border”.

I trust you knew I was joking about my internet filter...

That certainly was...an eye-opener. Great staging idea. As Anna Russell said, commenting on Siegfried's "Das ist kien mann" statement: "I mean, have you seen the average Brunnhilde?"

I remember a very funny cartoon from Playboy that was reprinted in Opera News (now that confluence of publications has to be unique), showing a rather fat, huge-chested Brunnhilde, topless but with her skirt, helmet & braids, holding her breastplate in front of an electric heater to warm things up.
